Breakout Star of 'Pearl' Mia Goth to Join the MCU in the cast of 'Blade'

With 2022 came a number of amazing breakout performances across television and film. Having said that, none may be bigger than the star-making performances by Mia Goth in horror films X and Pearl. Now, the rising, provocative star is heading to a comic book franchise that seems to fit her past performances well.

According to an exclusive from Deadline, Goth will join the cast of the new version of Blade led by two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Green Book, Moonlight). Ali was brought on stage all the way back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con confirming his role as the vampire hunting, leather suit clad comic hero. This came following a meeting with Marvel patriarch Kevin Feige saying he wanted to take on the role originally played by Wesley Snipes in the early 2000s in his own trilogy of films.

Blade has had a number of production issues and has taken a while to get going on production, however, the film is currently filming with Yann Demange ('71, Lovecraft Country) directing and a rewrite of the script done by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us). Plot details of the movie are currently under wraps and it's unknown who Goth will play; however, Ali's version of the character was first heard in a post-credit scene for Eternals when Kit Harington's character, Dane Whitman reaches for the Ebony Blade.

Goth is coming off her stellar, disturbing performance in Infinity Pool and will next be seen in the final installment of her-led horror trilogy, MaXXXine. Additionally, she is in talks to join Guillermo del Toro's take on Frankenstein for Netflix, which we reported back in March.
