The Truth Comes Out with First Trailer for AppleTV+ Crime Drama 'City on Fire' Releasing this May

by Darian Scalamoni
AppleTV+ has just released its first trailer for the highly-anticipated series City on Fire, which adapts the acclaimed book of the same name from Garth Risk Hallberg. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of Gossip Girl handled the adaptation that centers around the murder of a young woman who is connected to a string of mysterious fires around New York City.

The trailer for the series gives an introduction to the young woman, Samantha (Chase Sui Wonders) who gets shot and killed on the 4th of July. Despite the mass amounts of surveillance that exists within the Big Apple, the police struggle to find clues on why Samantha was murdered, however, during the investigation, disturbing details begin to come to light. Meanwhile, Charlie (Wyatt Oleff), Samantha's best friend does whatever he can do to solve the mystery of her death while unintentionally getting himself caught up in a web of deception.

City on Fire will take some of its own creative liberties with the adaptation, adjusting some details. Some of them include the change of a 4th of July shooting in the series, rather than a New Year's Eve shooting in the novel. Also, the novel takes place during the 1970s with the underground punk rock scene acting as a backdrop, while the streaming show will take place in 2003, two years after the Twin Towers fell.

Check out the trailer below for City on Fire! The series begins streaming on AppleTV+ on May 12 and stars Oleff, Wonders, Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella and John Cameron Mitchell.
