It
was only a matter of time before Clint Eastwood signed on to direct another
film based on a real-life event. Coming off of two other films based on actual
happenings, Eastwood will next direct Impossible
Odds based on the memoir from Jessica Buchanan and Erik Landelmalm,
according to Indiewire.
The
movie will be an account of Bucahanan’s 93 days of captivity at the hands of
Somali pirates during which time her husband tried to orchestrate her rescue. This
happened in 2011 but ended when President Obama approved a SEAL Team 6 rescue
via parachute. This seems like a good idea especially given Eastwood’s track
record adapting real-life events though he has a not so successful adaptation (J. Edgar), his other directed efforts
like Invictus, Sully and American Sniper are
fantastic films. I’m also excited to see him direct a female lead once again as
he has directed Hilary Swank and Angelina Jolie to an Oscar win and nomination
respectively.
In
addition to Eastwood directing, Brian Helgeland, who wrote another Eastwood
film, Mystic River will write the
script for this movie. You can check out Sully
as its still in theaters today and follows the heroic story of Chesley “Sully”
Sullenberger landing a plane on the Hudson River. You can read my review for
that movie right here,
but how do you guys feel about Clint Eastwood’s next project as a director? Comment
below and let us know!
