With a former First Lady being the Democratic nominee for President of
the United States this year, this show will be a timely one. According to Collider,
Robin Wright, who plays the First Lady on Netflix political drama, House of Cards is signing on to direct
and produce a television series adaptation of First Women: The Grace & Power of America’s Modern First Ladies.
The book was a bestseller from Kate Anderson Brower and covers the lives and
struggles of modern First Ladies from Jackie Kennedy all the way to our current
First Lady, Michelle Obama.
In
addition to Wright directing, Reese Witherspoon is set to star and co-produce
with her production company Pacific Standard. Wright has experience directing
as she has directed seven episodes of House
of Cards before. The book covers Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson,
Patricia Nixon, Betty Ford, Rosalynn Carter, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Hilary
Clinton, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama so it has a great foundation to build
upon many strong female characters but I’m interested to see how they format
the show.
The
series is not attached to any network yet but I’m excited to see whether it
ends up on a streaming network like Netflix or a premium network like HBO. Only
time will tell but I’m incredibly excited for this show. Are you guys excited
for this? What First Lady are you looking forward to seeing most? Comment below
and let us know!
