Though
many (including myself) thought that the Mary Poppins sequel was a bad idea,
Disney is bringing together a heck of a cast. According to Tracking
Board, Colin Firth has been cast in the movie as William Weatherall
Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.
Firth
is an incredibly capable actor of playing all types. He won an Oscar for his
starring role in The King’s Speech,
took on an action/comic book role in Kingsman:
The Secret Service and has great comedic chops so he should do well in the
sequel to the legendary Disney movie from 1964. Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago) is set to
direct Mary Poppins Returns.
Colin
Firth can be seen currently in Bridget
Jones’s Baby alongside Renee Zellweger and Patrick Dempsey and also is a
Producer on the critical drama, Loving
that could garner award consideration. Mary
Poppins Returns will be released on Christmas Day 2018 and star Emily
Blunt, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emily Mortimer, Ben Whishaw and Firth.
