Sam
Esmail recently has become one of the TV giants since he created the hit drama,
Mr. Robot, now he’s bringing an
iconic film to television. According to THR, Esmail will adapt 1927 sci-fi
classic, Metropolis as a TV
miniseries.
Esmail
will serve as an Executive Producer for the series and it won’t be launched for
two to three years so he’ll have time to finish Mr. Robot which just wrapped its second season. The original movie
was critically panned when it was first released but later was praised for
being one of the first movies of its kind. The film had an epic scale and
groundbreaking visual effects so now, it seems that Esmail will be able to do
even more with the show than director Fritz Lang could accomplish. Universal
Cable Productions will help produce the series and will even dedicated $10
million an episode.
The small-screen
adaptation will take place in a future society where wealthy industrialists
rule the vast city from high-rise tower complexes, while a lower class of
underground-dwelling workers toil constantly to operate the machines that
provide its power. Risking everything they know, two lovers from opposite sides
of the divide must find a way to bring down the whole system. Sounds to be very
much of the same plot of the movie, so I’m looking forward to it.
Esmail
is currently in production on Mr. Robot
Season 3 which stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater. The award-winning USA
Network drama is set to return at some point in 2017.
