A few
months ago we reported that Alicia Vikander would be playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot, now we have the film’s
villain. According to Variety,
Walton Goggins has been cast as the villain in the movie.
There
is currently no other information on Goggins’ character other than his
villainous intentions towards Lara Croft but the movie does have a director
already in Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and
more dominos are expected to fall soon. This is the second time Hollywood is
trying to bring this video game series to the big screen as Angelina Jolie took
on the role for the first time in 2001. This new film is expected to take
inspiration from the newer games though and focus on a much younger Lara Croft.
Tomb Raider currently has a release
date of March 16th, 2018.
Walton
Goggins is probably best known for his role as Sheriff Chris Mannix in Quentin
Tarantino’s last film, The Hateful Eight
and also co-stars with Danny McBride in one of HBO’s newest comedies, Vice Principles. This role is perfect
for Goggins as he’s known for playing this despicable characters in all
different genres so I’m excited for this casting news.
