'Babylon' Trailer Showcases the Glitz and Glam of 1920s Hollywood in Damien Chazelle's Next High-Octane Flick
by Darian Scalamoni
Damien Chazelle quickly catapulted himself to the top of the Hollywood food chain back in 2014 with the release of Whiplash. The film garnered five Academy Award nominations, netting three wins for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons. Following that, Chazelle had even larger success with his sophomore feature directorial effort, La La Land, landing fourteen nominations and Chazelle winning Best Director amongst their six wins. Now, following 2018's First Man, Chazelle's latest project is an epic love letter to old Hollywood titled Babylon and the latest trailer was just released for the film today! Babylon showcases the Hollywood system at a time where silent films began to shift into talkies with stars leading the way over the studio system. Think Singin' in the Rain' without the singing as a jumping off point. One of the biggest sells for the film due to be released in late-December is the remarkable ensemble cast led by Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Diego Calva, Tobey Maguire among many others.
The original epic is described as a tale of ambition and excess that traces the rise and fall of multiple film mainstays during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in 1920s Los Angeles. Babylon releases in theaters on December 23, 2022, and I can't wait to see this one for myself!
