Harrison Ford has returned as the iconic and beloved Indiana Jones in the upcoming fifth film within the franchise and thanks to Empire Magazine, we have our first look at Ford's aging hero and other new characters joining the fray.

Within Empire's 2023 movie preview, they highlighted with their cover story, the legendary Indiana Jones film that will be directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v. Ferrari) taking over the reins from Steven Spielberg, who previously helmed all four previous incarnations of the heroic archaeologist. This fifth movie will focus on Indy fighting the Nazis once again, magnifying a time decades after World War II taking place in 1969. The film will find our protagonist living amidst the ongoing space race as he discovers some a painful truth about those who are running the space exploration program for the Americans; they're actually ex-Nazis.

With that, we also see a reveal of the film's villain from Empire, Voller, played by Mads Mikkelsen, who is somewhat inspired by real-life NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun. In an ominous tease interview with the publication, Mikkelsen revealed that there is "something Voller wants to get his hands on. Indy wants to get his hands on it too." It seems there is enough in that statement to lead to a general conflict between the explorer and former-Nazi turned engineer.

Within the film, we will also see Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for her starring role in TV darling, Fleabag, as a female heroine who helps Indy with his latest escapade. Additionally, the final image below reveals Boyd Holbrook's Klaber; a wicked minion who helps Voller throughout the film in trying to take down Indy and Waller-Bridge's yet-to-be-revealed character.

Indiana Jones 5 is the first Indiana Jones film since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull back in 2008. Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on June 30, 2023 and stars Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.
