Get Ready to Deck the Halls with Dwayne Johnson & Chris Evans as 'Red One' Begins Production
by Darian Scalamoni
Dwayne Johnson is always ready to shock the world with whatever his next major project is and for the first time, he's embarking on a Christmas adventure alongside Chris Evans and some other familiar faces. Red One, a holiday-based, family film for Amazon Prime Video has just started production following Johnson's press tour for Black Adam.
Red One is described as a "four-quadrant project" for Amazon and is planned to be a substantial franchise moving forward with a large marketing push and merchandising opportunities across the online shopper and streaming service. Johnson will lead the cast that also includes Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, J.K. Simmons and Bonnie Hunt in the movie that comes scripted from Fast & Furious writer, Chris Morgan from an original idea from Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions partner, Hiram Garcia.
Amazon Studios picked this project up in a major bidding war, and though we aren't privy to many details of the holiday-based film just yet, it is said to be an action-adventure which lends well to the talents of Johnson and Evans. Johnson will play a character named Callum Drift with Evans as Jack O'Malley, additionally, J.K. Simmons and Bonnie Hunt will be playing Santa and Mrs. Claus. The film is said to reimagine "holiday mythology."
The film will be directed by Jake Kasdan, who previously directed Johnson in the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. It will exclusively premiere on Amazon Prime Video in time for holiday season 2023.
