Welcome back to another edition of What's New This Week? right here at Cinema Wave. With Thanksgiving being smack dab in the middle of the release calendar, young children are off of school and so it's mostly a big day in theaters for new releases. Having said that, this week I will preview the very limited but still exciting new entertainment coming to streaming services this week!

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on November 25th (Disney+)
Following the success of Marvel's Halloween-esque Special Presentation, Werewolf by Night, they're finally (officially) getting into holiday programming! While this holiday special was announced almost two years ago at Disney Investor Day, we finally will see the release this Friday in a 45-minute adventure that focuses on the Guardians heading to Earth to find Peter Quill the best gift for Christmas. As seen in the trailers, Drax and Mantis lead the charge and set off to find Kevin Bacon. Yes, you read that right; movie star and Footloose icon Kevin Bacon who Quill references in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film as a hero of his. The latest written and directed by James Gunn looks to be a ton of fun for the whole family and Marvel fans alike. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special premieres on Disney+ this Friday, November 25th.

Wednesday on November 23rd (Netflix)
Tim Burton has brought the classic Addams Family back to streaming as Jenna Ortega is set to lead the new TV series, Wednesday, a gothic coming-of-age tale based on the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams. The supernatural teen series will follow Wednesday as she moves through her adolescence and her years as a student while learning of her abilities. Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones guest star as her parents while Fred Armisen also plays Uncle Fester. Gwendoline Christie, best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, also appears as the Principal of Nevermore, which Wednesday Addams attends. Wednesday begins streaming on Netflix this Wednesday, November 23rd.

Welcome to Chippendales on November 23rd (Hulu)
Hulu has had a banner year in the "biographical true crime" genre of television covering well-known stories across the decades. Some of these programs include The Dropout following Elizabeth Holmes and the crisis at Theranos, Candy covering the murder of Betty Gore in the 1980s and of course, Pam and Tommy, the series that chronicles the aftermath of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's sex tape being stolen. Now, Welcome to Chippendales will aim to become the next talk of the town with the limited series that showcases a narrative take on the start of male striptease empire, Chippendales from its founder, Somen 'Steve' Banerjee played by Kumail Nanjiani. The Oscar-nominated Nanjiani is joined in this series by The White Lotus standout Murray Bartlett, Annaleigh Ashford, Juliette Lewis and Dan Stevens in the dramedy that seems to fit that same formula of the aforementioned series that Hulu has commissioned earlier in 2022. Welcome to Chippendales premieres on Hulu this Tuesday, November 22nd with subsequent episodes being released every Tuesday following.
