What's New This Week? (November 28th-December 4th)
by Darian Scalamoni
We are back! After a small Thanksgiving break from the site and much needed time to catch up on content, I am here again today to present to you the best new movies and TV headed to streaming this week! Here's our latest edition of What's New This Week?Gossip Girl (Season 2) on December 1st (HBO Max)
Gossip Girl was rebooted on HBO Max after the original 2007-2012 series and now on a more premium service (HBO), they have freedom to go a little darker. The first season did pretty good ratings but wasn't received as well as the first iteration. While Kristen Bell returns as the narrator for this series, it's not one that I actively watch but felt the need to cover due to its cultural imprint. Gossip Girl returns for a second season on the streamer HBO Max this Thursday, December 1.
Lady Chatterly's Lover on December 2nd (Netflix)
The latest romantic period piece from Netflix is a feature film with some well accomplished talent headlined by two stars of their series. Jack O'Connell from Netflix's Godless (which is terrific, and I highly recommend) and Emma Corrin, famously from The Crown, star in this adaptation of the original novel by D.H. Lawrence. The film follows Corrin as a young married woman married to a handsome young soldier injured at war and her ongoing affair with the gamekeeper of her estate. The acting talents involved make this one to keep your eyes out for. And while you're at it, please check out my Actor's Showcase article on one of the film's stars, Emma Corrin, right here! Lady Chatterly's Lover is available to stream this Friday, December 2 only on Netflix.
George and Tammy on December 4th (Showtime)
George and Tammy has been in development since 2016 from many different networks and stars along the years being attached but its finally found its way on a premium network with acting powerhouses in the titular roles. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain star respectively as the country singing duo, George Jones and Tammy Wynette in a limited series about their individual lives, their singing career and their marriage. John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition) is directing all six episodes of the show that also stars Steve Zahn, Kelly McCormack and Walton Goggins. George and Tammy will premiere on Showtime this Sunday, December 4 followed by streaming for the series after its first episode.
Willow on November 30th (Disney+)
Willow is another franchise IP getting a continuation on streaming thanks to the need for programming on Disney+! In all fairness, I have never seen the original 1988 Ron Howard film of the same name that this series will be a continuation of, however, it is nice to see Warwick Davis reprise his most well-known role as the titular dwarf sorcerer as he teams with a new young team of misfits to try and save his home world from villainous treachery and such. The series also stars MCU actors Erin Kellyman and Tony Revolori as members of the team. Willow will begin streaming this Wednesday, November 30 only on Disney+ with subsequent episodes due to follow every Wednesday.
