Jon
Favreau was the guy who pretty much started the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he
directed the first Iron Man film back
in 2008 and helped Kevin Feige jumpstart what is now one of the most exciting
and innovative genres in movies today. Not only did Favreau direct the first
two Iron Man films, he also stars in
the franchise as Tony Stark’s right hand man, Happy Hogan. According to Collider,
Favreau is set to return to the MCU in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming in which Robert Downey Jr. will also star
in.
Tom
Holland is set to star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the team up between Marvel
Studios and Sony Pictures. This will not be the first time we’ve seen Holland
on screen as the web slinger though as Holland appeared as the hero in the most
recent MCU film, Captain America: Civil
War. Homecoming is currently in
production with Jon Watts (Cop Car)
directing.
We’re
still picking at straws when it comes to details about the MCU’s first real
attempt at Spider-Man following the first two franchises headed solely by Sony.
Those include the original Spider-Man
films starring Tobey Maguire and The
Amazing Spider-Man series led by Andrew Garfield. What we do know is that
Marvel has said this will be a high school story with something similar to the
vibe of a John Hughes (The Breakfast Club,
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) movie.
Spider-Man: Homecoming stars not only
Holland, Downey Jr. and now, Favreau but also Michael Keaton as the villain
Vulture. In addition to all of those stars, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori,
Zendaya, Hannibal Burress, Bokeem Woodbine, Martin Starr and Donald Glover
round out the ensemble for the film.
