It’s
been over two years since Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for his performance
as Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyers Club
but in the past 5 years, the actor has completely reinvented himself as one of
the best dramatic actors in the business today. His roles in films big or small
like The Wolf of Wall Street, Mud,
Interstellar, Magic Mike and who could forget how tremendous he was in
Season 1 of the HBO series, True
Detective. Today though, we see McConaughey in his biggest transformative role
since his award-winning performance with the first trailer for Stephen Gaghan’s
(Syriana) next film, Gold.
The
film is based on a true story that follows a struggling businessman who teams
up with a geologist to find gold in the Indonesian jungle. It’s based on the
Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal that happened in the mid-90s. The
trailer brings off a vibe similar to other crime films like American Hustle or Goodfellas. As a fan of both of those films, I’m also excited for
this film by the coming attraction.
Gold opens on Christmas Day and stars
McConaughey, Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramirez and Corey Stoll. Check out the
trailer below!
