The Purge franchise has been a massive
success with each movie grossing more than the last. Part of the reason for
that might be its incredibly interesting concept which is that “The Purge” is
when for 12 hours every year, all crimes are legal including rape and murder.
With three Purge films already
released it begs the question, how many more of these movies will we get with
the same plot? Well according to Collider, it seems
that creator James DeMonaco might have some new ideas.
DeMonaco
actually believes that television is in the future for the horror franchise
saying that an anthology series could be on the way. “Yes! Not an anthology… I
guess kind of an anthology – more of an interwoven anthology. They came to me
about a TV show, my idea is that you do six or seven storylines. And I would
kind of intercut them, use flashbacks”, said DeMonaco.
This
sounds like a great idea to really spice up a franchise that is pretty much
rinse and repeat foe the most part. Though the most recent movie in the series
titled, The Purge: Election Year
focused on protecting a presidential candidate from the annual crime spree, it
still was again, very much the same thing. It seems that plans are still in
development for the popular franchise to move to television but once we receive
more information, you’ll be the first ones to know!
