The
streaming giant known as Netflix is officially in the acquisition business.
According to Collider,
the worldwide leading entertainment platform has purchased Mark Millar’s
portfolio of comic book characters and stories known as Millarworld. Netflix has
done so to bring the acclaimed franchises to Netflix through feature films,
television series and kids’ shows exclusive to Netflix for the foreseeable
future.
Mark
Millar along with his wife Lucy developed the comic book banner and story arcs
that have inspired feature films such as The
Avengers, Captain America: Civil War and Logan while at Marvel. When the company started, Millar and his
co-creators have published 18 different worlds, three of which, have spawned
there own feature adaptations already (Wanted,
Kick-Ass, Kingsman). This is only the third massive acquisition of a comic
book property as Warner Bros. bought DC Comics in 1968 and Disney purchased
Marvel in 2009.
It
sure is an exciting time to be a fan of Millar’s work in cinema, Millarworld
and comic books in general as many of your favorite stories will be headed from
page to screen sooner rather than later. How do you guys feel about Netflix
purchasing Millarworld? What story arc are you most excited to see? Comment
below and let us know!
