Jonah Hill to Direct & Star in 'Outcome' at Apple Alongside Keanu Reeves
by Darian Scalamoni
While Keanu Reeves is currently in theaters under the watch of The Table with the fourth installment of the John Wick franchise, he has recently been given more chances to have fun on screen in the sense of comedy. Whether it be in a small bit part in Netflix romantic comedy, Always Be My Maybe or playing Evel Knivel-esque Duke Kaboom in Toy Story 4, the guy clearly has range. Now, that range will be put to the test as he's set his next project with a surprising co-star and director. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves (The Matrix, Speed) will star in Outcome, a dark comedy film for Apple Studios that will co-star Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street, The Wolf of Wall Street). Hill is also slated to direct the film and co-write with Ezra Woods. Outcome will follow Reeves as Reef, a broken Hollywood star who goes to a deep, dark place in his past to confront his demons and turn over a new leaf before he becomes extorted by a mysterious video from years prior.
In addition to starring, directing and co-writing the feature, Hill will produce at his production company, Strong Baby. He'll team with Apple to eventually have the film release on their streaming platform, AppleTV+. The deal marks a consistent tone for Apple trying to work with some of the biggest names in Hollywood following Outcome being a hot package released back in November. Apple is also working on a Grateful Dead biopic with Hill starring and Martin Scorsese slated to direct.
As we previously stated, Reeves is wrapping up his time as the dog-loving assassin known as John Wick with John Wick: Chapter 4. The movie is already a rousing success having earned $247 million globally so far with a box-office opening weekend of $73.5 million domestically. That set a franchise record for Reeves and the team behind the action blockbusters. Reeves will next reprise his role as Wick in the upcoming spinoff, Ballerina which stars recent Oscar-nominee Ana de Armas. He'll also be returning to the role of DC chain-smoking detective John Constantine in a follow-up to the 2005 comic book movie.
Hill most recently starred in and co-wrote You People, which I reviewed back in January on the site. He previously directed the skateboarding dramedy, Mid90s back in 2018, but turned in an even more profound second directorial attempt with his documentary about his therapist, Stutz, which I highly recommend on Netflix.
