Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick, At Midnight), a breakout who was a part of Maverick's flight crew in one of 2022's biggest movies is turning to her musical side. According to an exclusive from THR, Barbaro is in talks to join the cast of A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic led by Timothee Chalamet to be directed by James Mangold. A Complete Unknown begins filming this Summer in New York and centers on what is seemingly a cathartic moment for Dylan set at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Chalamet plays a young Dylan, the legendary singer-songwriter who shakes up the festival and his performance by going electric. While the motivated pivot set a divide amongst his fans and the music scene in general, it led him down a path to stardom. Barbaro will portray the folk singer and activist Joan Baez in the film, who performed "Blowin' in the Wind" at the festival.
Mangold (Logan, Ford v. Ferrari) will direct from a script he co-wrote with Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York, Silence). Meanwhile, Barbaro has her biggest role coming up next month as she'll star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Netflix action-comedy series FUBAR which debuts on May 25. Barbaro also will voice a character in the Netflix animated series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas which is set to premiere later this year.
