Marvel Begins Plans to Shift Release Windows and Spread-Out Film/TV Output, 'The Marvels' Moves from July to November

Following our feature story from the other day regarding Marvel and its future slate, we've since seen the theatrical release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel has two other feature films slated for 2023 release but one of them has just been delayed a bit. It appears that The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel has shifted from its original July 28 release date to November 10 instead.

This news comes as Marvel Studios have previously had big success with November releases with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Ragnarok all serving as past titles within the MCU that have been released within that month. Wakanda Forever recently set the November record for an opening weekend with $181.3 million, and with Captain Marvel grossing $1.1 billion when it released back in 2019, it seems it might be a smart move to do big business for the superhero movie.

Nia DaCosta (Candyman, Little Woods) makes her big budget debut directing The Marvels which will bring back Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, aka the titular Captain Marvel but this time, she'll be joined by fresh MCU recruits in Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau, played by Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris. Parris first made her MCU debut as the now-adult version of Rambeau in the first MCU Disney+ series, WandaVision working for the S.W.O.R.D agency before gaining powers entering the hex formed by Wanda Maximoff. Rambeau was previously played by Akira Akbar as a younger version of the character since Captain Marvel took place in the 1990s.

However, all eyes appear to be on the other titular "Marvel" in Vellani's portrayal of Pakistani, Jersey City-based Kamala Khan. She led her own Disney+ series, simply titled Ms. Marvel and has quickly become one of the more popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Samuel L. Jackson will also return for the sequel.

The Marvels joins what is already a stacked November release calendar, hitting theaters just a week after Dune: Part Two on November 3. Additionally, a week after the release of The Marvels, Lionsgate will release The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It should make for a crowded three-week period but honestly, this whole year is loaded with content almost every weekend. To facilitate the change in release, Disney has opted to move up their Haunted Mansion movie to the previous date of July 28 from its original August 11 date.

The Marvels will now release on November 10 and stars Brie Larson, Teyonnah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Are you excited to check out the movie? Let us know in the comments! Also, check out the first poster for the film below!
