Nicholas Hoult and Jude Law to Lead True Crime Feature 'The Order'

by Darian Scalamoni
A terrific production team in front of and behind the camera are coming together for a crime film based on the novel, The Silent Brotherhood. Deadline reports that Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: Days of Future Past) will star in the re-titled film The Order which tells the story of a real-life white supremacist group from the 1980s.

Law will star as an FBI agent who is investigating a string of violent bank robberies, carjackings, heists and counterfeiting throughout the Pacific Northwest. He then uncovers that the crimes are being committed by a domestic terrorist organization in Idaho headed by a magnetic radical leader played by Hoult who is plotting a war against the United States government. The Order will be directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, Assassin's Creed) with the script written by Oscar-nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard, Creed III). The film is set to begin production in May.

Law is due to have a big year in 2023, specifically under the Disney umbrella. He'll appear as the villainous Captain Hook in the Disney+ film Peter Pan & Wendy before starring in the original Star Wars series Skeleton Crew directed by Jon Watts. He'll also appear opposite Alicia Vikander in the historical British film Firebrand and co-star with Jason Bateman for the Netflix series, Black Rabbit.

Hoult most recently starred in the 2022's underrated foodie thriller The Menu and will next appear as Dracula's henchman in Renfield. He's set to star in Robert Eggers next film, Nosferatu alongside Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp. Hoult will also voice a character in the upcoming animated Garfield movie.

I think this sounds like something that could be in the vein of something like American History X or BlacKkKlansman. With Law and Hoult in tow, I'm interested to see how the pairing do with material such as this from a script from an Oscar-nominee. Hoult played a different sort of psycho in Mad Max: Fury Road, however, this calls for a performance that is sure to be rawer to play having come from the perspective of a real disgusting person.
