Sam Neill, Alison Brie & Jake Lacy Join Peacock Limited Series 'Apples Never Fall'

by Darian Scalamoni
We first reported on the limited series Apples Never Fall on Peacock earlier this month with the news that Oscar-nominee Annette Bening would be leading. Now, we have news that comes from Deadline that confirms the casting of the rest of the Delaney family.

The report indicates that Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Peaky Blinders), Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, A Friend of the Family) and Alison Brie (GLOW, Community) have all joined the cast as Stan Delaney, Troy Delaney and Amy Delaney respectively in the story that follows the disappearance of their mother Joy after retiring from decades of coaching tennis alongside her husband. Following the mysterious vanishing of their mother, Troy and Amy along with their two other siblings begin to view their parents' seemingly perfect marriage through a different lens. While Neill is set to play the patriarch of the family, Lacy will portray Troy, the second oldest Delaney child whose competitive nature through tennis as a young boy has benefitted him in his adult life now as a venture capitalist. Brie will play Amy, the oldest of the four Delaney children who is often viewed as the black sheep within their family. She is still renting a room in a house that is meant for graduate students and constantly jumping careers. The other two Delaney children are yet to be cast.

Apples Never Fall is based on the novel of the same name from Liane Moriarty (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) whose work has been ripe for adaptation in the current television landscape. Melanie Marnich will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer of the series that is set to begin filming very soon.

The series will mark a reunion for Lacy and Peacock as he recently starred in the scripted series A Friend of the Family, based on the harrowing true story of Robert Berchtold and the Broberg family. Lacy starred in that series as Berchtold while also starring in the first season of of the acclaimed HBO series The White Lotus, earning an Emmy nomination for his role. He also stars in Significant Other, a sci-fi film currently available to stream on Paramount+.

Neill is best known for his iconic role of Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, having just returned for Jurassic World: Dominion. He'll next appear in fantasy film The Portable Door with Christoph Waltz after having made his MCU return as Actor Odin in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Brie most recently starred in her husband Dave Franco's directorial debut, romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know for Amazon. She previously led Netflix's female wrestling drama GLOW and was a part of the esteemed ensemble in beloved comedy series, Community. The latter series is gearing up for a sequel film for Peacock as well which is set to bring back most of the original cast.
