Following in the footsteps of Disney's new model across live-action filmmaking, it seems that Universal will next adapt popular Dreamworks animated franchise How to Train Your Dragon for live-action. Not only that, but there's already a release date set in 2025.

How to Train Your Dragon has garnered multiple Oscar nominations and amassed more than a billion dollars at the box-office but for some reason, they believe people want to see a different version of this story told on screen. The franchise that is based on the books written by Cressida Cowell tell the story of an awkward teenage Viking named Hiccup, voiced by Jay Baruchel who befriends a dragon who are usually hunted and feared by his people. His dragon, known as Toothless works alongside him to fend off any enemies in their midst throughout the films and TV series. Dean DuBlois, who has written and directed all three feature films will also be helming the live-action adaptation which is a good sign. The film is scheduled to be released by Universal on March 14, 2025.

In addition to Baruchel, the rest of the voice cast for the franchise's animated installments include Jonah Hill, America Ferrera, Kristen Wiig, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Gerard Butler, Cate Blanchett and Kit Harington. While Disney has had success with some of their live-action remakes of their animated features such as The Jungle Book, Cinderella and The Lion King, but not all of them have hit. This marks the first Dreamworks animated project that will be brought to live-action, however, now we await the terrifying potential of other movies in their catalogue such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda or Puss in Boots being adapted next. Oh, the horror.
