With
all the news surrounding big name directors signing on to their new projects,
it seems that it’s been forever since Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) has been behind the camera.
According to Collider,
it seems Fukunaga has signed on to direct a movie based on the book Shockwave: Countdown to Hiroshima
written by Stephen Walker.
Shockwave will be a historical telling
of the days leading up to the catastrophic nuclear attack against Japan.
Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the
Huntsman) is set to write the script as of now. It sure sounds like a
fascinating project for Fukunaga but he won’t be hopping into it as soon as you
might think as shooting for his Netflix series, Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill begins in August. I think
Fukunaga is such a stylish director and there hasn’t been a good film
showcasing this horrific event so I’d like to see this happen.
In
addition to Maniac, Fukunaga is
attached to direct Stanley Kubrick’s Napolean series for HBO and The Black Count. Amini wrote The Snowman which made our top 50
most-anticipated list. Hopefully Shockwave
comes together sooner rather than later and that can make our most anticipated
list for 2018!
