Gus
Van Sant’s last film, The Sea of Trees
was widely regarded as a terrible movie, so much so, that even A24 couldn’t
save it. His follow-up to that though seems to already be garnering plenty of
interest because of the incredible cast he’s bringing together. According to Variety,
Jack Black is in talks to co-star in Don’t
Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.
The
film will be a biopic on the quadriplegic cartoonist named John Callahan who will
be played by Joaquin Phoenix. Callahan became a quadriplegic at the age of 21
following a car accident and then turned to art as a form of therapy though
being criticized by the taboo topics he would draw and touch upon. Callahan
died at the age of 59. At this time, there are no details on exactly who Black
would play in the movie though he’d join Phoenix, Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara in
the cast if he signed on. Black would be perfect for a taboo dramatic comedy
and I personally believe he’d fit into this ensemble and would be excited to
see him work with a director in the caliber of Gus Van Sant.
Black
recently starred in The Polka King
which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. He’ll also be seen in the Jumanji reboot in December alongside
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan.
