After
the insanity that was the 2016 United States Presidential Election, it seems
that there are already two shows in the works that will cover the race between
Hillary Clinton and the eventual winner, President Donald Trump. Variety
reports that Ryan Murphy’s American
Horror Story anthology series that Season 7’s theme “…is going to be about
the election that we just went through” which he revealed on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen
show. When asked if the show will have a “Trump” character, Murphy responded
with “Maybe.”
Collider
reports that also an 8-10 episode miniseries written by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) will
team up with the head of Annapurna Pictures, Megan Ellison to craft a political
drama that will tell the compelling events that was the election cycle. Boal is
expected to make his directorial debut with this series and I personally
believe it has potential to be the better of the two as he’s working with
investigative journalists in New York and Washington D.C. to serve as
contributors for his ideas before writing the screenplays. Boal has the resume
to be excited about this project whether you want to re-live the circus-like
election the citizens of the United States just went through.
Murphy’s
newest series on FX titled Feud: Bette and
Joan will make its series premiere on March 5th. While his next
season of American Crime Story,
subtitled Katrina, debuts next year.
The next season of American Horror Story
that will focus on the election subject matter begins shooting in June. Boal
wrote the screenplay for Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming untitled Detroit riots
project that will be released on August 4th.
