Uh-oh, more problems for
Warner Bros. Just as many thought that Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield) was in deep talks to
direct The Batman that formally had
the star, Ben Affleck directing, it seems Reeves has dropped out of
negotiations to helm the solo effort on the dark knight, per THR.
This comes just a week
after the negotiations begun but now it seems he has exited talks but sources
say that they could re-engage in talks further down the line. Reeves is
currently in post-production for War for the Planet of the Apes which will be
released on July 14th. This is certainly concerning for many fans of
the DCEU and the DC Comics property that is being tarnished with the chaotic
environment around Warner Bros. They have already pushed back the start date
for The Batman and they have some
time to figure it out but I think the DC movie division at the studio has to
get the stuff together as this universe is quickly becoming unhinged. The Flash has also had issues with
finding a director due to “creative differences” as Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick
Famuyiwa have both been on the project before exiting.
Other directors that were
in talks to direct the solo Batman effort before Reeves was offered the job
include Ridley Scott (Alien, The Martian),
Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), Denis
Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario) and
Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant, Warrior).
Hopefully we get this concise answers sooner rather than later so the DCEU
doesn’t continue to disappoint diehard and casual fans alike.
