After mass controversy surrounding the film, the solo Batman project has found a new director just days after Ben Affleck announced his exit behind the camera. According to Variety, Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield) will direct The Batman.

Reeves was one of the directors on the shortlist revealed last week to replace Affleck as director, though he’s still expected to produce and star as the caped crusader. Reeves has replaced directors on blockbusters before so this isn’t his first rodeo after Rupert Wyatt dropped out of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel which Reeves helmed. He now has anchored the trilogy as he recently directed War for the Planet of the Apes that will be released in July. The Batman is expected to start filming by the end of the year.

Reeves first dive into comic book territory should be interesting but I think he’s the right guy for the job to replace Affleck who dropped out to focus more on acting in the role as being director would’ve been “an added pressure” for the star. The Batman is currently scheduled to be released in 2019 and stars Affleck, J.K. Simmons, Joe Manganiello and Jeremy Irons.
