It was 20 years ago that 30 Seconds to Mars frontman, Jared Leto had his first starring role in a film, Prefontaine based on the life of an Olympic hopeful long distance runner who died at a young age, from then on, he never looked back at an acting career that has had huge peaks including an Oscar win while continuing to tour and make new music for his alternative rock band. Now it appears, Leto has moved to directing. According to The Playlist, the Oscar-winning actor will make his directorial debut with 77.

77 will follow two police officers who team up to rescue an abducted heiress while concurrently investigating the murder of a friend, ironically enough, the crime thriller is set in 1974. The script will be adapted from James Ellroy’s novel and the screenplay will be written from David Matthews who has written episodes for the television series Boardwalk Empire and Narcos. The project sure sounds interesting and I’m hoping Leto can adapt the property well. As a huge fan of his acting wise, I’m hoping his talent can translate just as well behind the camera.

Leto was last seen in Suicide Squad portraying The Joker and will be seen this year in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049.
