Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed) has set his next project and he's heading to the sea. The Hollywood Reporter has news that the franchise filmmaker will be directing the film Atlantis that will be written by Charmaine DeGrate (House of the Dragon, The Acolyte).

Atlantis was previously in development at Universal but has since been scooped up by Skydance. The film will be a fantasy adventure based on the fictional civilization that sank and then was lost due to elements or ancient gods. It will be an original conceptual idea crafted from Trevorrow and DeGrate.

Trevorrow came into the public eye of Hollywood in 2012 with his indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed starring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Jake Johnson. Following that, he got handed the reins to reboot the Jurassic Park franchise with Jurassic World in 2015. He returned to direct last year's Jurassic World: Dominion which brought back the iconic legacy characters played by Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum. The two films grossed over $2 billion dollars combined worldwide.

Atlantis will be the first feature film written by DeGrate after her work on HBO's House of the Dragon. Previously, she worked as a writer on The CW sci-fi series, The 100. She also acts as a co-executive producer on the upcoming Amazon limited series Daisy Jones & the Six and a writer on the upcoming Disney+ series, The Acolyte.
