When it was first reported that there would be a film revolving around the mega-popular game Tetris back in July 2020, it sounded ridiculous. Though as more details began to emerge about of the true story of how there was a legal battle to secure the rights to the intellectual property for the game came through as well as a star as enigmatic as Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Rocketman) leading, it made it sounds more appealing. Now, AppleTV+ which produced and will release the film exclusively on their streaming service has released a killer first trailer for Tetris.

Tetris will follow Egerton's character Henk Rogers who discovered the game of Tetris in 1988 who then risks his life heading to the Soviet Union to join forces with the inventor of the game to bring it to the global masses. The movie is billed as a Cold War-thriller meets The Social Network. I was intrigued as more details came out, but this trailer has completely sold me on the film. Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie, Filth) directs from a script written by Noah Pink (NatGeo's Genius).

AppleTV+ keeps stacking up more interesting releases and strategies to get people invested including Sharper starring Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan that hits the streamer tomorrow. Additionally, they still have Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Matthew Vaughn's Argylle and the Chris Evans/Ana de Armas team up movie Ghosted still to hit the platform later in 2023. The movie will also mark a return for Egerton to the company as he starred in limited series Black Bird which garnered him a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.

Check out the first trailer for Tetris below! The film stars Egerton, Nikita Efremov, Toby Jones, Roger Allam and Anthony Boyle. The movie will first premiere at this year's SXSW film festival before streaming worldwide on AppleTV+ on March 31.
