AppleTV+ Series 'Presumed Innocent' Adds to Cast with Peter Sarsgaard, OT Fagbenle, Renate Reinsve
We here at Cinema Wave reported when the show's lead Jake Gyllenhaal was cast back in December. We also reported just last month with Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga joined as Gyllenhaal's wife. Since then, Bill Camp and Elizabeth Marvel joined the series and now, this trio of actors is rounding out the ensemble. Presumed Innocent is based on a 1987 novel that was also adapted as a feature film in 1990 starring Harrison Ford telling the story of an awful murder that stirs controversy within the Chicago Prosecution Office as there is a presumption that one of their own committed the crime. Gyllenhaal is taking on the role originally occupied by Ford.
Reinsve, who was nominated for a BAFTA last year for her leading role in the beloved international feature, The Worst Person in the World, will play Carolyn Polhemus. She is a driven and enigmatic Chicago prosecutor who is having an affair with her boss before being gruesomely murdered. The actress is also set to star in The Governesses alongside Lily-Rose Depp and Squid Game breakout star, Hoyeon due later this year as well as A Different Man opposite Sebastian Stan.
Fagbenle, who is Emmy-nominated for his role in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale plays Nico Della Guardia, a slick politician who will stop at nothing to get a conviction when one of his Deputy District attorneys is killed. Fagbenle last starred in The First Lady for Showtime as Barack Obama and WeCrashed for AppleTV+.
Sarsgaard, who is Gyllenhaal's real-life brother-in-law will play Tommy Molto, who makes it his mission to take down Gyllenhaal's character Rusty by any means necessary. He's known as a bulldog in the courtroom but is lonely and insecure outside of it. Sarsgaard was recently Emmy-nominated for his performance in the limited series Dopesick as Rick Mountcastle. He also played DA Gil Colson in Matt Reeves' The Batman. He has a number of projects in the works including drama Memory with Jessica Chastain, romantic thriller Pet Shop Boys and a comedic thriller about the revolt against the Spanish Flu in 1918 titled Coup!
