Since their post-Marvel stint, The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame) have been in demand, particularly at streamers. First, AppleTV+ housed the feature misfire Cherry starring Tom Holland, Netflix took in their produced actioner starring Chris Hemsworth, Extraction with an upcoming sequel scheduled for later this year. Additionally, their big budget action thriller The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans is the most expensive movie in Netflix's history. Now, they'll move into episodic television with Amazon Prime Video's long-awaited series Citadel which just released its first trailer.

Citadel is yet another big budget tentpole spy project executive produced by Joe and Anthony Russo which is showrun by David Weil, who previously wrote, directed and acted as showrunner for the nazi hunting series Hunters for Amazon. The series was conceived as a potential franchise kickoff for Amazon with Citadel being just the first in many planned spinoffs in what is described as a global adventure where spies from other countries will come together for the ultimate mission. The Hollywood Reporter previously detailed that the series had a ton of issues with its production, including its budget which ballooned up to $200 million over just seven episodes for a non-established IP.

The title of the series comes from the name of the international spy agency that the show revolves around as they are tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people with no particular country's affiliation. When the organization fell, Mason Kane, who is played by Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Eternals) and Nadia Sinh, who is played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico, The Matrix Revolutions) have their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. As they've stayed hidden for many years building new identities, Mason is contacted by former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) to help take down the powerful association responsible for their collapse known as Manticore from establishing a new world order.

Check out the first trailer below for Citadel! The series stars Madden, Chopra Jonas, Tucci, Ashleigh Cummings and Lesley Manville. Citadel begins streaming on Amazon Prime Video on April 28.
