'True Detective' Duo Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson to Re-Team for Texas-Set Comedy Series at AppleTV+

by Darian Scalamoni
It seems that the dream-team acting duo from the first season of True Detective is coming back together this time for something a bit lighter. According to Deadline, Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Magic Mike) and Woody Harrelson (Natural Born Killers, Triangle of Sadness) will come together for a currently untitled comedy series set in Texas for AppleTV+ that comes from David West Read whose upcoming series The Big Door Prize will also stream on AppleTV+.

The series is an "odd couple-esque" love story between two best friends who have an odd but beautiful relationship. Their long-time friendship is tested when both combined families attempt to live together on Matthew's ranch in Texas. The two actors are frequent collaborators previously appearing in True Detective's premiere season back in 2014 for HBO. They also have previously starred together in 1998's Welcome to Hollywood, 1999's EDtv and 2008's Surfer Dude.

It seems that Apple is pleased with what West Read has done with the upcoming series, The Big Door Prize as he's set as serve as creator and showrunner of this starry half-hour comedy for the streamer. West Read previously served as a writer and executive producer for beloved comedy series Schitt's Creek. We reported back in February that McConaughey has been rumored to be joining the Yellowstone-verse replacing Kevin Costner following scheduling disputes between himself and creator Taylor Sheridan. McConaughey will also voice Elvis Presley in Netflix's adult-animated series Agent Elvis which premieres tomorrow.

Harrelson most recently starred in Best Picture nominee Triangle of Sadness for Ruben Ostlund. Additionally, the actor has been busy the last few months, first joining the 5-Timers Club at Saturday Night Live for his fifth hosting appearance. Additionally, he stars in Champions which is currently in theaters. He will return to HBO later this year in the limited series White House Plumbers with Jason Theroux based on the Watergate-scandal.
