Netflix Sets Ensemble Murder Mystery Series Led by Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Meaghann Fahy, Jack Reynor & Eve Hewson
Per a report from Deadline, Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Meaghann Fahy (The White Lotus), Dakota Fanning (The Alienist), Jack Reynor (The Peripheral) and Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters) are in talks to star in the limited series, The Perfect Couple. For fans of the genre in play, Emmy-winner Susanne Bier, who previously helmed HBO Max's The Undoing will direct and executive produce the series. This would mark a reunion as Kidman starred in the latter series alongside Hugh Grant back in 2020. Bier also worked on Showtime's The First Lady which Fanning appeared in setting forth another collaboration between them as well.
The Perfect Couple is based on the New York Times' bestselling novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand back in 2018; the series will adapt the book into an eight-episode miniseries that follows a Nantucket local named Celeste Otis who is set to marry her perfect match on the 4th of July. However, when a body is discovered floating in the nearby harbor on what is supposed to be the biggest wedding in town, everyone at the ceremony suddenly has a microscope among them as a potential suspect. The show was previously set up at Fox before it reconfigured its team in August and moved to Netflix under the purview of creator Jenna Lamia.
Though all the stars attached are known for their film and television roles, let's focus on their respective works on the small screen in this report. Kidman has made a major presence on TV and streaming in recent years, starring in Big Little Lies, which nabbed her a few Emmy Awards before appearing in Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu. She also has a few upcoming shows which include Kay Scarpetta for Prime Video and Lioness for Paramount+ from Taylor Sheridan. She'll also reprise her role as Atlanna in DC's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom later this year and in Netflix's A Family Affair with Zac Efron and Joey King.
Schreiber is best known for his iconic titular role as fixer Ray Donovan for Showtime. He's been nominated for nine Emmys and six Golden Globe's throughout the years and will next play Anne Frank's father Otto in the Disney+ limited series, A Small Light. He'll also appear in Wes Anderson's latest feature, Asteroid City which just dropped its first trailer today and we'll hit theaters in June.
Fahy is one of the major breakouts from the second season of HBO's The White Lotus. Her storyline within the Sicily-set sophomore effort had her working alongside Theo James, Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe. She starred previously on Freeform's The Bold Type which ran for five seasons and will next star in The Unbreakable Boy with Zachary Levi.
Reynor recently starred in Prime Video sci-fi series The Peripheral, which I quite enjoyed. However, he also appears in the upcoming release of Flora and Son alongside Eve Hewson, who is also cast in this series. That film will later stream on AppleTV+ as it was picked up following its premiere at Sundance. He's set to star in respective thrillers Brightwater and Mother's Milk later this year as well.
Fanning was a breakout star at a very young age for roles in such films as Man on Fire and I Am Sam. Since then, she's grown up working with some incredible directors such as Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Gina Prince-Bythewood. She previously starred in The Alienist on TNT with Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans but will next appear on tv for the limited series Ripley with Andrew Scott. While the aforementioned Hewson recently starred in AppleTV+ drama series Bad Sisters as well as Netflix miniseries Behind Her Eyes.
