John Cena, Awkwafina & John Cena to Star in Amazon Comedy Film 'Grand Death Auto' from Paul Feig

What a trio to headline a juicy premise for Amazon in terms of a comedy project. In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that John Cena (Peacemaker, F9: The Fast Saga), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell) and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Barbie) will all star in Grand Death Auto for Amazon.

Grand Death Auto takes place in a near-future California in which the lottery invokes a new clause that if someone could kill the announced winner before sundown, they're legally allowed to claim their prize for the deed done. Awkwafina will play a new resident of Los Angeles named Katie who finds herself in possession of a winning lotto ticket before joining forces with an amateur bodyguard Noel (played by Cena). However, Louis Lewis (played by Liu) is competing with Noel to be the sole-defendant of Katie's jackpot to claim the commission for himself. It's a hilarious premise with great comedy talent on board as well as having veteran comedy director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) attached to direct the project.

The film serves as a reunion for Awkwafina and Simu Liu as they both starred in the Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She'll next appear in screen for Renfield with Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage. Following that, she'll voice Scuttle in the live-action Disney take on The Little Mermaid.

Simu Liu has been on fire since being cast as a Marvel hero, next appearing in Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated Barbie film in July. He also has sci-fi thriller Simulant and romantic comedy One True Loves coming in 2023.

Cena is one of the most accomplished WWE superstars of all-time having won 16 world championships before transitioning to a part-time wrestler to headline movies and television. Cena is coming off starring in his own HBO Max series Peacemaker surrounding his character from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. His 2023 might be even bigger as he reprises his role as Dom Toretto's brother Jakob in Fast X. Additionally, he'll be a part of the massive ensemble for Apple spy film Argylle alongside Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston and Ariana DeBose.
