We’ve
been covering the upcoming Ocean’s
female reboot since Cinema Wave debuted back in May and today, we have more
confirmation on the team of women who will pull of the heist. The movie which
is now being called Ocean’s Ocho has
added Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Nora “Awkwafina” Lum according to Collider.
In addition to these three actresses that were added, Sandra Bullock, Cate
Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling were already attached. That
would bring the lead characters to seven thieves, meaning there’s room for one
more on the team.
Old
reports had Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks attached to the film but
Lawrence had to drop out due to other commitments and Banks hasn’t been
mentioned amongst the rest of the planned cast since being rumored. Steven
Soderbergh will produce the film after directing the original reboot that
starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The movie will be written and
directed by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games,
Pleasantville).
Though
the female-led reboot of Ghostbusters bombed
at the box office, I have more faith in this project going forward. I love most
of the actresses involved (minus Rihanna, though I enjoy some of her music) and
the idea of them stealing from the New York Met Gala is intriguing and should
make for a fun movie.
What
do you guys think about Ocean’s Ocho?
Will it have a different fate than the Ghostbusters
reboot? Comment below and let us know!
