There
are already many adaptations of Sherlock Holmes that have been done in the past
few years. Whether it be the ultra-successful/fantastic BBC One show Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch,
the CBS adaptation Elementary or the
Guy Ritchie films that starred Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in recent years,
but none that have gone the full blown comedy route. Well according to Collider,
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will team up to play the dynamic detective duo
in Holmes & Watson.
Ferrell
will play Sherlock Holmes with Reilly playing the loyal sidekick, James Watson
in what will be the first time Ferrell and Reilly have worked together since Step Brothers back in 2008. Etan Cohen
will direct the film and he previously directed Ferrell before in Get Hard. The studio is pushing for more
of a PG-13 feel though so expect more of a Talladega
Nights feel rather than Step Brothers.
Cohen
made a name for himself originally as writer, penning for the scripts for Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy before making his directorial debut with the successful
Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard.
Though I would be more excited if this was being written and directed by Adam
McKay, I’m still excited for the prospect of these two guys working together
again.
