Richard
Linklater has established himself as one of the best filmmakers of our time
with his most recent ambitious projects, whether that be his Oscar-nominated
film Boyhood or his spiritual sequel
to Dazed and Confused titled Everybody Wants Some!! Now, According to
THR,
Linklater will direct a sequel to The
Last Detail which will be titled, Last
Flag Flying.
Last Flag Flying will take place 40
years after the Hal Ashby (Being There,
Harold and Maude) classic which
covered the short journey of two naval officers played by Jack Nicholson and
Otis Young who are tasked with delivering a young officer to naval prison in
Portsmouth. Linklater’s sequel is now officially in the works with a new trio
to portray those roles though.
Linklater
is teaming up with three Academy Award-nominated actors for the first time for
the movie as Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell and Laurence Fishburne are set to
star in the sequel to 1973 original film. It also shouldn’t be too much of a
surprise that Amazon is backing the film as it has already been the
distributors for other big films this year like Woody Allen’s Café Society and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon.
I’m a
huge fan of Linklater’s work and I love all three actors involved in this
project so this one is at the top of my list for sure. What do you guys think
though? How do you feel about Cranston, Carell and Fishburne teaming together
to work with Linklater? Comment below and let us know!
