According
to Collider,
Marvel is going to bring a new series to a streaming service that isn’t
Netflix. It appears that a long developing project based on the comic series Runaways will be headed to Hulu. This is
exciting news after there has been little to no talk of this project coming to
fruition after a report back in 2010 that had Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Freeheld) set to direct a feature film
adaptation of the property.
The
comic book series follows a group of teenagers who discover that their parents
are a band of supervillains known as “The Pride” and runaway only to discover
their unusual birthrights. The original team includes prodigy Alex Wilder, a
witch named Nico Minoru, an alien named Karolina Dean, a mutant named Molly
Hayes, a tech-aided boy named Chase Stein and a telepathic link named Gertrude
Yorkes with a pet dinosaur named Old Lace.
The
Hulu series will be created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage who also
created Gossip Girl and they will act
as showrunners on Runaways. This series sounds like it has the potential to be
tons of fun and it’s another reason why I need to invest in a Hulu
subscription.
