After
seeing the teaser for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi drama Arrival last week, I’ve become
increasingly excited for this project that was already one of my most
anticipated for the year. Yesterday, Paramount revealed the full length trailer
for the film and it looks absolutely fantastic.
Arrival is a film which provides a look
of aliens coming to Earth and in an attempt to communicate with the species,
expert linguist Louise Banks (played by five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams) is
recruited to decipher the language of the aliens. This would establish a
dialogue before the world spirals out of control due to the fear, mystery and
mistrust with these species of another kind.
Villeneuve
has quickly become one of my favorite directors because of his previous works
like Prisoners and Sicario, two criminally underrated
films. With his take on the sci-fi genre and the talent attached in Adams and
co-stars Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker, I’m incredibly interested to see
how this original idea will translate on screen.
Arrival will play at the Toronto
International Film Festival and Venice Film Festival before opening in the U.S.
on November 11th. Check out the trailer below!
