Back
in June, it was reported that Disney was remaking the film, Splash starring Tom Hanks from the 80’s.
Today, Collider
reports that Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell will be the leads in the remake of
the movie directed by Ron Howard.
The
original movie is a simple, boy meets mermaid story that starred Tom Hanks and
Daryl Hannah, but this new cast of heartthrob and very solid actor Channing
Tatum and his 22 Jump Street costar,
Jillian Hall is a very unlikely pair. Ron Howard and legendary producer Brian
Grazer have boarded the project as Producers. The most interesting new tidbit
though is that there is a twist: Tatum will actually play a merman, while Bell
plays the human. The idea sprang from Bell herself who is hysterical on
Workaholics and was great in Jump Street
and The Night Before.
Bell
recently even received her own series on Comedy Central titled, Idiotsitter in which Tatum has
co-starred so I think there will definitely be no problems with chemistry with
this pairing. She will be seen next this winter in Office Christmas Party alongside Jason Bateman and Jennifer
Aniston. Also, she’s in Fist Fight
which will be released in February with Ice Cube and Charlie Day. Tatum, will
be seen next in two films next year. One of them being the sequel to the 2014
action/spy film Kingsman: The Secret
Service that is currently filming, the other is Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky also starring Daniel Craig,
Adam Driver and Hilary Swank.
