Robert
Zemeckis is a very interesting filmmaker to say the least. The guy has made
tons of movies of all genres including classics like Back to the Future, Cast Away,
Forrest Gump and The Polar Express. Recently, Zemeckis has hit a bit of a lull in
terms of his projects though. Flight
was an okay film that was headlined by a great performance by Denzel Washington
and though, I haven’t seen The Walk,
I heard it was an average movie at best.
Zemeckis’
next project, Allied, however, is set
against the backdrop of WWII and stars Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. The film
follows an intelligence officer (Pitt) who encounters a French Resistance
fighter (Cotillard) in 1942 North Africa. The two are subsequently reunited in
London, but tensions rise as the war surmounts pressures on them both.
The
script was written by Steven Knight (Peaky
Blinders, Locke) who says that it’s
based on a true story that was told to him at the age of 21 and he’s kept it
around ever since. Allied opens everywhere on November 23rd and in
addition to Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, also stars Lizzy Caplan and Matthew
Goode. Check out the trailer below!
