John
Green, the author behind the novels The Fault
in Our Stars and Paper Towns is
having another one of his titles adapted for the screen. This time though, it’s
for streaming. According to Deadline,
Kristine Froseth and Charlie Plummer will star in Hulu’s eight-episode limited
series of Looking for Alaska, another
one of Green’s most popular books.
Looking for Alaska has been in development
for years, originally as a feature film but Hulu acquired the rights and they
decided to turn it into a miniseries. The book is told through the eyes of a
teenager named, Miles “Pudge” Halter, as he enrolls in boarding school to gain
a deeper view of life. It’s there that he falls in love with a girl named,
Alaska Young, who soon after dies unexpectedly. Miles and his close friends try
to seek out answers and uncover the truth behind her death and make sense of
it.
Plummer
will play Miles, while Froseth is set to play Alaska. The novel is incredibly
popular and though I’ve never read it, I’m interested in the story. I was a fan
of The Fault in Our Stars adaptation,
but I thought that worked so well because of the chemistry between the two
leads, Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. I believe that Plummer and Froseth
have to have similar chemistry for this series to work.
Froseth
can be seen on Hulu’s competitor, Netflix in two feature films; Sierra Burgess is a Loser and Apostle, directed by The Raid director, Gareth Evans. Plummer
starred in the films Lean on Pete and
All the Money in the World, the
latter playing John Paul Getty III. The series is expected to begin filming soon.
