I
seem to be in the latter when discussing the monster-based cinematic universe
set up at Legendary. I wasn’t a huge fan of Kong:
Skull Island and though I enjoyed 2014’s Godzilla, it was nothing to write home about. There must be enough
fans though that these movies are continuing to happen with Godzilla: King of the Monsters hitting
theaters on May 31st. The studio is hoping it’ll all pay off with Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020 and they’re
stacking the cast.
According
to The Playlist, Alexander Skarsgard
has joined the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong.
He’ll be joining the previously announced Millie Bobbie Brown, Brian Tyree
Henry and Julian Dennison. The movie will obviously culminate the battle between
King Kong and Godzilla. There’s no word yet on who Skarsgard will play in the
film which is set to be directed by Adam Wingard, who wrote The Guest and directed the live-action
version of Death Note.
Skarsgard
recently won an Emmy for his work on Big
Little Lies for HBO though he’s also known for playing Eric Northman in the
network’s hit, True Blood. He can be
seen in the recent Netflix feature, Hold
the Dark and will also star in AMC’s limited series, The Little Drummer Girl.
I’m a
big fan of Skarsgard and think him finally getting a shot at a tentpole is
awesome news. Though I’m not a huge fan of the first two films of this
franchise, I have hope as I loved the trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Godzilla
vs. Kong hits theaters on May 20th, 2020.
