With
all the success out of the gate for the 2018 reboot/sequel to the original
horror series, Halloween it seems
another slasher legend is bound for a new treatment as well. According to The Playlist, the Springhill Entertainment
production banner that is headlined by NBA superstar, LeBron James are in
negotiations to reboot the Friday the 13th
franchise.
James
was recently in the news of moviemaking as Space
Jam 2 was announced with Springhill Entertainment producing as well as
James leading the film as the star. James appeared in Trainwreck just a few years ago in which his surprising acting
talent was on full-display but his recent move to Los Angeles to play for the
Lakers has led to a much bigger involvement in producing content for film and television.
Though
there is no expectation that James will act in the reboot, he’s very vocal on
his love of horror films. This won’t be the first time that the massively
popular film franchise and main character, Jason Vorhees since the original
1980 movie. Since then, Friday the 13th
has generated 10 sequels and a reboot back in 2009.
Though
I’m not a huge fan of the horror genre, it seems to be a massive money maker
these days with movies like A Quiet
Place, The Nun, The First Purge and Hereditary
killing it at the box-office. LeBron happens to be one of those audience
members who wants to see more scares on screen; luckily for him (and us), he
has the money and backing to produce more of them!
