Though
today is Halloween, Netflix seems determined to get their Christmas slate in
order for 2020. According to Deadline,
Forest Whitaker will star in Jingle
Jangle, a holiday musical about a cobblestone world that comes to life.
Whitaker
will play Jeronicus Jangle in the film, a once-great toy maker who no longer
believes in himself or his abilities but finds himself given a second chance with
a magical invention when his granddaughter comes to town for the holidays. It’s
essentially a race-against-time story with Jangle and his granddaughter having
to get the invention done in time for Christmas or it’ll change their lives
forever.
Netflix
is hoping to crack into iconic Christmas territory with Jingle Jangle. There is a good amount of Christmas films that are
in the pantheon of greatness with Elf, A
Christmas Story and Home Alone
standing out as examples. Seeing Whitaker in a role like this could be a lot of
fun however, especially since it’ll be directed by David E. Talbert, who has
experience with Christmas movies. He directed Almost Christmas and El Camino
Christmas previously.
Whitaker
is coming off Marvel’s Black Panther which
is currently pushing for a Best Picture nomination, and will be seen next in
the Epix series, The Godfather of Harlem
in which he’ll play the crime boss, Bumpy Johnson. The Oscar-winning actor also
made his Broadway debut recently in Hughie.
