It’s
another day where I am here at Cinema Wave reporting that there is yet another
reboot on the docket for Hollywood. According to Collider, Pirates of the Caribbean,
based on the Disney ride of the same name is heading towards a refreshing take after
five films in the original franchise.
Rhett
Reese and Paul Wernick, who previously wrote the Deadpool movies and Zombieland
are attached to write the new take on the swashbuckling tentpole. The films
which started in 2003 with The Curse of
the Black Pearl have raked in over $4.5 billion worldwide. The latest
feature, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was
released just last year.
There’s
no word yet on if any of the original cast members will return though Johnny
Depp’s Oscar-nominated take on Captain Jack Sparrow has appeared in all five
movies. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are amongst the other long-time pirates
as they’ve appeared in four of the original adventures.
Personally,
I believe that though the franchise could use a reboot, this is coming way too
soon. Having said that, Reese and Wernick taking the reins could be incredibly
interesting given their terrific work with comic book heroes in Deadpool and the dead in Zombieland. Here’s hoping their take
will be fresh and could breathe new life into an iconic IP.
