Eddie
Redmayne has been preoccupied with his commitment to the Fantastic Beasts franchise, so we haven’t seen him in a prestige
role since The Danish Girl. That’s
about to change as he’s boarding an exciting feature. According to Variety, Eddie Redmayne is in talks to
join the recently announced film, The
Trial of the Chicago 7.
The
film will follow the infamous trial of 1969 where seven defendants were charged
with conspiracy and more arising from protests in Chicago at the 1968
Democratic National Convention. It led to tons of conversation around the
country on how there was chaos afoot intended to weaken the U.S. government.
Sacha
Baron Cohen was announced just a couple of days ago for the project and now,
Redmayne is set to join as Tom Hayden, the co-founder of the Students for a
Democratic Society. Hayden was best known as an anti-war, civil rights,
intellectual activist in the 1960s. Hayden stood trial in the Chicago Seven
case and authored the Port Huron Statement as well.
Redmayne
is a huge get for Sorkin as he’s now acquired an Oscar-winner to join the picture.
Redmayne won an Academy Award in 2015 for The
Theory of Everything for playing Stephen Hawking. He was also nominated for
his performance in The Danish Girl,
the following year. He’ll be seen next reprising his role as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
which hits theaters on November 16th.
