Two
of Hollywood’s best veteran actresses are coming together for a project that
you’re not going to want to miss. According to Deadline, Allison Janney and Laura Dern will star in the latest
feature from Tate Taylor titled Breaking
News in Yuba County.
The
film follows Sue Bottoms, played by Janney, who catches her husband in bed with
another woman to which the shock of his reaction causes him to die of a heart
attack. She then buries the body and takes advantage of her growing celebrity
due to her report that her husband is missing. She quickly discovers that she’s
lost herself and is in trouble with the police all whilst trying to hide this from
her sister, Nancy. Dern plays Nancy, a local news anchor who’s desperate for a
story.
This
film seems like a perfect vehicle for both actresses who shine in anything they
do. Janney thrives with dark comedies though and I think this could potentially
lead to another Oscar nomination for her. Dern’s role isn’t as flashy, but she’s
also been in awards consideration for both movies and television in recent
years.
Janney
is coming off her Oscar-winning performance in last year’s I, Tonya and currently appears on CBS’ Mom. She’ll appear in another film from Tate Taylor titled Ma, a
psychological horror film as well as voicing Margaux Needler in The Addams
Family next October. Dern will star in the currently untitled movie from
Noah Baumbach alongside Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver set for 2019. She'll also appear in Greta Gerwig’s remake of Little Women.
Tate Taylor will direct
the film based on the script from the 2017 Black List which was written by
Amanda Idoko. Taylor is best known for directing The Help and The Girl on the
Train. In addition to Breaking News in Yuba County, he has Ma in post-production and is filming the
actioner, Eve starring Jessica Chastain,
Geena Davis, John Malkovich and Colin Farrell.
Breaking
News in Yuba County is set to begin filming in mid-2019.
