It is
true that most of the DC films that have been released have not done well
critically or at the box-office. However, the one outlier that has done tremendous
in both facets is Wonder Woman. The
film grossed over $800 million and is received the best reviews of any comic
book film released under the DC film banner. The sequel was announced after the
positive buzz and now we have news regarding the next installment.
According
to Deadline, Wonder Woman 1984 will
move from its original November 1st, 2019 date to a more appropriate
release date of June 5th, 2020. The move makes sense as DC has the
upcoming Joker movie starring Joaquin
Phoenix opening just 30 days before the original release date. Warner Bros. had
a corresponding move by taking the Mark Wahlberg-starrer Six Billion Dollar Man off the schedule entirely. The movie was
originally slated to hit theaters on June 5th, 2020.
Wonder Woman 1984 will see the return of
Patty Jenkins behind the camera as well as Gal Gadot in the titular role. Chris
Pine will also reprise his role as Steve Trevor while Pedro Pascal and Kristen
Wiig join the cast.
